On January 1st, 2014, I began a daily collage project without thinking about its future—only for the pleasure of creating something every day. It emerged as an exercise embedded in my routine.
El 1 de enero de 2014 comencé un proyecto de collage diario sin pensar en su futuro, únicamente por el placer de crear algo cada día. Nació como un ejercicio integrado en mi rutina.
At first, it was a simple game away from the computer, working directly with my hands and materials, mainly paper. I like collage—actually, I love collage—because it offers new shapes that are impossible to imagine without a pre-existing image. You don’t need to think everything through beforehand; in the end, the material itself shows the way. Randomness and working with images created by others is fascinating, as it allows multiple readings and the emergence of unexpected forms.
Al principio era un juego sencillo, alejado del ordenador, trabajando directamente con las manos y con materiales, principalmente papel. Me gusta el collage—en realidad, me encanta—porque ofrece formas nuevas imposibles de imaginar sin una imagen previa. No es necesario pensarlo todo de antemano; al final es el propio material el que marca el camino. El azar y el hecho de trabajar con imágenes creadas por otros resulta fascinante, ya que permite múltiples lecturas y la aparición de formas inesperadas.
Year after year, the project grew and gradually took on a more personal direction. I discovered new dialects within the language of collage.
Over time, I began to search for a new unit of time, breaking away from the conventional concept and adapting it to my own rhythm. Through repetition, patterns and formal units began to reveal themselves.
Año tras año, el proyecto ha ido creciendo y tomando una dirección cada vez más personal. He descubierto nuevos dialectos dentro del lenguaje del collage.
Con el tiempo empecé a buscar una nueva unidad de tiempo, rompiendo con el concepto convencional y adaptándolo a mi propio ritmo. Quizá, a través de este proceso, aparecieron patrones y unidades formales que solo podían revelarse con la repetición.
This process came to an end in mid-2020. Although its conclusion coincided with the outbreak of COVID, it was not the reason for it. The project had stopped making sense: experimentation became less frequent, and a sense of obligation emerged that needed closure. It was precisely when no external force required me to stop that I realized it was time to end it.
Este proceso terminó a mediados de 2020. Aunque su final coincidió con la irrupción de la COVID, no fue a causa de ella. El proyecto había dejado de tener sentido: la experimentación se volvió menos recurrente y apareció un nivel de obligación que necesitaba cerrarse. Fue precisamente cuando ningún agente externo me obligaba a detenerme cuando entendí que era el momento de finalizarlo.
