“12 Months, 12 Rules” is the third annual iteration of this project, which began in 2014. The title, in Spanish, means 12 meses, 12 pautas, and is a readaptation of a TV slogan. Each year, the project focuses on a central element; in 2014, this was reappropriation, which inspired the title.
Each month comes with a set of rules: one relates to the format, and the others to material, theme, color, composition, etc. Working on this project forces me to explore the different dialogues that emerge in the language of collage. I create the rules a few days before the start of each month. An unwritten rule is that each month’s variables differ from the others.
December is the final month of the project, so I decided to use only materials cut during 2016 (stored in boxes) and some ink shapes created with watercolor and acrylics.
