A couple of months ago, I began to wonder what would happen if I created just one piece for an entire month. Around that time, a selection of Fedrigoni papers—similar to Pantone samples—came into my hands. Because of their size, I decided to work with micro-collage and to incorporate typographic elements and letters into the compositions.

“12 Months, 12 Rules” is the third annual edition of a daily project that began in 2014. The title, in Spanish 12 meses, 12 pautas, is a reinterpretation of a television slogan. Each year the project is structured around an essential concept; in 2016, that axis was reappropriation, which gives meaning to the title. Each month is defined by a set of rules: one related to format and others concerning materials, theme, color, composition, and support. Working within these constraints pushes me to investigate the different dialogues that emerge within the language of collage. The rules are established a few days before the beginning of each month, and one unwritten rule is that each month’s variables must differ from those of the others, as radically as possible.

Hace un par de meses me pregunté qué ocurriría si realizaba una única pieza durante todo un mes. En ese momento llegó a mis manos una selección de papeles Fedrigoni —similares a muestras Pantone— y, debido a su tamaño, decidí trabajar en formato de microcollage e incorporar elementos tipográficos y letras en las composiciones.

“12 Meses, 12 Pautas” es el tercer año de un proyecto diario iniciado en 2014. El título es una reinterpretación de un eslogan televisivo. Cada año el proyecto se articula a partir de un eje conceptual esencial; en 2016 ese eje fue la reapropiación, que da sentido al título. Cada mes se define por un conjunto de reglas: una relacionada con el formato y otras vinculadas a los materiales, el tema, el color, la composición y el soporte. Trabajar bajo estas limitaciones me impulsa a investigar los distintos diálogos que surgen dentro del lenguaje del collage. Las reglas se establecen pocos días antes de comenzar cada mes y existe una norma no escrita: las variables de cada mes deben diferir de las de los demás, de la manera más radical posible.
