The typographies needed to function as a whole, while each one also had to exist as a balanced, autonomous unit. For this reason, I used the skeleton as a structural base to build the elements, without closing them or turning the collages into literal letters. To achieve this, I worked with an almost square format.
12 Months, 12 Rules is the third year of a daily project that began in 2014. The conceptual axis of 2016 is reappropriation. Each year, the project is built around a general theme and a set of premises that gradually consolidate as the year progresses.
To formalize 12 Months, 12 Rules, I define a series of variables—theme, format, composition, materials, support, and so on—that apply exclusively to a single month and allow for a deeper exploration of collage through limited resources. These variables are defined a few days before the end of the preceding month and do not follow a logical continuity with it, other than being different—ideally as different as possible. This rupture is especially evident in the format of the support.
Las tipografías debían funcionar como un conjunto, pero al mismo tiempo cada una de ellas tenía que ser una unidad en equilibrio. Por este motivo utilicé el esqueleto como base para construir los elementos, sin cerrarlos ni convertir los collages en letras propiamente dichas. Para ello trabajé con un formato prácticamente cuadrado.
12 meses, 12 pautas es el tercer año de un proyecto diario que comenzó en 2014. El eje que articula el año 2016 es la reapropiación. Cada año el proyecto se construye a partir de un tema general y unas premisas que, a medida que avanza el tiempo, se van consolidando.
Para formalizar 12 meses, 12 pautas defino una serie de variables —temática, formato, composición, materiales, soporte, etc.— que determinan únicamente un mes y permiten profundizar en el collage a partir de recursos limitados. Estas variables se establecen pocos días antes de finalizar el mes anterior y no mantienen una lógica de continuidad con él, más allá de ser diferentes, a ser posible lo máximo. Esta ruptura se hace especialmente evidente en el formato del soporte.
